Bridgeport could alter school security plan

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport officials could soon change how they handle security at city schools.

A subcommittee of the board of education voted last night in favor of putting school security officers under the control of the board instead of the Bridgeport Police Department.

Currently, city police officers patrol city schools and oversee the district's security program.

Police say the partnership keeps schools safe while saving the district money, but some members of the board say they have too many unanswered questions.

The subcommittee's recommendation will now be reviewed by the full board of education.
