BRIDGEPORT - Members of a Bridgeport family say they have been without power for a month, and they worry that the problem is putting them at risk.
The Romeros say they have been using a generator to power fans and medical equipment like oxygen machines, but the extreme heat has been causing the generator to overheat and shut off.
The Romeros say the power was shut off shortly after they moved in last month because their neighbors were stealing electricity and United Illuminating (UI) was working on the building's electrical wiring. When pressed for information, UI said it does not comment on individual accounts.
The city says an electrical inspection has to be done on the premises prior to turning the power back on, but it says that social services will help the family find a place to stay for the weekend.
The city says the landlord has been cited.
