Bridgeport fire sends firefighter to hospital

An early morning fire in Bridgeport destroyed a house and left one firefighter hospitalized.The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. at an abandoned house

BRIDGEPORT - An early morning fire in Bridgeport destroyed a house and left one firefighter hospitalized.

The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. at an abandoned house at 1839 Central Ave., and neighbors say it burned for hours. Residents living on either side of the house were evacuated as firefighters tried to contain it.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries but has since been released. The cause is still under investigation.
