BRIDGEPORT - Southwestern Connecticut firefighters are sending their thoughts and well wishes to Boston after a fire killed two of their peers and injured 13 others.

They say the tragedy has brought back memories of two of their own killed while battling a 2010 blaze in Bridgeport.

Lt. Steven Velasquez and firefighter Mitch Baik died of smoke inhalation in a house fire on Elmwood Avenue.

When the tragedy hit Bridgeport, firefighters from Boston came to Connecticut to help their peers heal.

Fairfield Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Tracy says he knew both Velasquez and Baik well, as both fire departments would often train together or help one another with fires. Tracy has been in contact with Boston officials since Wednesday offering condolences, as well as a helping hand.
