BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport is getting more funding from the state to move forward with plans to build a second train station in the city.

Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Wednesday that the state plans to fund the design of Bridgeport's future Barnum station. Malloy called it "unacceptable" that Connecticut's largest city has only one train station.

The Barnum station will be built on an 8-acre site along the tracks on Barnum Avenue. The location used to be part of the Remington Arms factory and the buildings have been previously demolished.

The state estimates the design phase will take about 18 months. City officials hope the station could be open and running by 2018.
