BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport Republicans are crying foul on the eve of election night, claiming that city workers have unfairly removed hundreds of their campaign signs.

Supporters of Republican mayoral candidate Rick Torres spent much of Monday re-staking signs that they say they recovered from the city's Department of Public Works. Torres claims he's been unfairly targeted. He accused current Mayor Bill Finch of ordering workers to remove his signs. "They're taking down Finch signs, but for the most part, 80 percent are my signs," Torres says. Torres supporters posted pictures on Facebook showing a city pickup truck filled to the brim with campaign signs.A city official confirmed that DPW workers removed some signs, but said they were only taken down if they were staked on public property, which is in violation of municipal code. Bridgeport Republicans, however, claim they were disproportionately targeted.
