BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police have launched a new gun buyback program.
Police say the "Guns for Groceries" program aims to get guns off the street.
Anyone who brings in a gun will be given a gift certificate to a local supermarket in return.
Mayor Bill Finch says most guns used to commit crimes are illegally owned.
Police will be at their community services office on Sylvan Avenue today accepting guns until they run out of gift certificates.
