Bridgeport man charged with disturbing the peace

BRIDGEPORT - Police have charged a Bridgeport man with breaching the peace after calls came in that he was allegedly displaying a gun in a Stamford liquor store last night.

Investigators say at around 7:20 p.m., a 911 center received an emergency call about a man carrying a gun inside the Bevmax store. Moments later, a fleet of police cars, a K-9 unit and dozens of officers surrounded 825 Main St., a multi-family home next door to the liquor retailer.

Police say they handcuffed 30-year-old Paulino Butler, of Bridgeport, after confirming that he was the gunman. According to investigators, while he was being detained, Butler admitted to hiding a BB gun inside the nearby house.

According to police, the gun, which was seized during a search, was designed to replicate a black .45 caliber handgun.

Butler is being held on $1,500 bail. He is expected to appear in court next week.
