Bridgeport man saves elderly woman from car fire

BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport man is being hailed a hero after he saved a 91-year-old woman from a car fire yesterday afternoon.

Police say the elderly woman had just picked up some lottery tickets when her car began to emit smoke from under the hood while she sat in park at 4200 Main St.

Jonathan Deida says he was in the parking lot with a customer when he noticed the smoke and ran to the woman's aid. He says she couldn't get her seatbelt off so he reached inside the burning car and helped pull her free.

Deida said the woman hugged him and thanked him for his help.
