BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport man thanked two local residents today for helping to save his life when a fire destroyed his home.

Officials say the fire happened last night on Stratford Avenue. The blaze started in the back of the house, completely gutting a major portion of it.

The man in the house, who asked to only be identified by his first name, Conrad, says he was fast asleep when the fire broke out. He woke to the sound of friends screaming his name and quickly realized that his life was in danger.

Andrea Medley, who works across the street, says she and her husband rushed over to the house when they realized Conrad was inside.

Medley says she is grateful that she and her husband were able to save his life.

Authorities say the fire marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire, but it could be several days before it is determined.
