BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport leaders are looking into temporarily housing immigrant children in the U.S. illegally in the Park City.
Gov. Dannel Malloy recently rejected a request by the federal government to take in 2,000 children in Southbury. He says some 320 children have been placed in Connecticut with relatives who already live here.
Gov. Malloy says officials are looking into whether the Gateway Community College site in New Haven is another possibility.
Mayor Bill Finch says he believes it is his duty to help kids who are in need as long as the government foots the bill and it does not take anything away from the children of Bridgeport.
Finch says he plans to participate in a conference call with other local mayors Friday to discuss the matter.
