BRIDGEPORT - After nearly two years of waiting, Bridgeport officials have named a new chief of police.

Mayor Bill Finch (D-Bridgeport) announced today that Joseph Gaudett will officially assume the city's highest police post.

With 27 years on the force, Gaudett has built a reputation for being a hands-on supervisor. Gaudett says residents can expect more community-oriented police work in the future.

He had been serving as the acting police chief since Bryan Norwood resigned in 2008.
