Bridgeport neighbors unite for 1-year anniversary of Anthony Smith's murder

Residents in Bridgeport are remembering the victim of a shooting nearly 12 months after his death, and are coming together to try to prevent further

BRIDGEPORT - Residents in Bridgeport are remembering the victim of a shooting nearly 12 months after his death, and are coming together to try to prevent further tragedies.

Next week marks the one-year anniversary of the death of 32-year-old Anthony Smith, who was found shot in the head at 1216 Iranistan Ave.

Neighbors say seeing Smith's body laying on the ground where children normally play was traumatic, and they want to be keep this kind of nightmare from repeating.

Since his death, neighbor Michael Christian has started a mentoring program to work with young people who live in the area.

Christian is urging other adults to take part in grassroots mentoring programs, which he says are on the front lines of the fight against crime
