Bridgeport officials push census awareness

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch is urging residents to fill out the census as the U.S. Census Bureau?s numbers show only 39 percent have mailed back the forms.

U.S. Census official Lonni Wood says not enough people realize the importance of the census.

Lonnie Hickman, 49, says he was uninformed about the census, but realized filling it out can give him and his son a voice.

?I really got to get involved with this because I do want to get a better school for my son,? Hickman says.

The U.S. Census Bureau says 55 percent of Connecticut residents have returned the forms.
