BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport Planning and Zoning officials have voted against allowing a halfway house to open in a residential neighborhood of Bridgeport.

City officials ruled 5-1 against extending the permit to build a 120-bed halfway house on the corner of Railroad Avenue and Norman Street.

The main objection from residents was the location, since the proposed site was between three schools, a park and the University of Bridgeport.

The project was initially approved in 2008 by the commission, but federal and state funding never materialized.
