BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport business owners on East Main Street say recent repaving by the state took away customer parking spaces.

They say the state Department of Transportation painted new lines that removed streetside parking for customers and business owners.

State officials say they held a public hearing on the parking issue last year and put a notice in the newspaper.

Business owners told News 12 that they never heard anything about it until showing up for business Wednesday morning.

"As a small business person, I kind of felt like when they did this my business didn't count, that we didn't count as people in this community," says Kyle Garnett, of New Creations Hairstyles.

City officials say they're investigating whether the city can offer relief in the form of off-street parking, possibly in a nearby vacant lot owned by the city.
