BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport pastor who was in attendance during Martin Luther King Jr.'s visionary "I have a dream" speech is sharing its lessons with her congregation.

This week marks the 50th anniversary of the historic civil rights speech delivered in Washington, D.C. in 1963.

Rev. Mary McBride Lee was at the march, met Dr. King and saw his speech firsthand. She said she left the march with a whole new outlook on life.

For 33 years, she has been the pastor of El Shaddai Church of God in Christ, which was founded in 1965, just two years after the March on Washington.

Now, the reverend says she has made it her mission to share the meaning of King's message of equality. "Many young people simply don't appreciate what it accomplished," she says.

Lee is also a candidate for the Bridgeport City Council in District 135.
