BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport Police Department's top cop is reminding his officers to be cautious and take every threat seriously in the wake of the deadly shootings of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
As law enforcement is a close-knit community, Police Chief AJ Perez says officers being killed hits home for the men and women in Bridgeport who put their lives on the line.
Perez says that since the attacks, he has been making sure officers patrol in pairs at night when possible, in addition to making sure no officer responds alone to a call.
Police add that building relationships between officers and the people they serve is key.
Officers say they will continue to wear black bands on their badges to honor the fallen officers, something they have done since the Dallas attack. Flags continue to be flown at half-staff outside the department.
