BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police are responding to residents' concerns over a dog left in an outdoor kennel.

Pictures of the dog created a flurry of posts on social media, prompting animal rights activists from as far as New Jersey to voice concerns over the puppy's living conditions.

Police say the dog is kept in an enclosure with room to exercise as well as heat, food and water. They note that the situation is not an example of animal cruelty.

Authorities also state that some of the information circulating is false. They cite that the 9-month-old Bobby is only kept in an outdoor kennel sometimes and that the kennel is clean, comfortable and safe.

City animal control officers say they have checked on the dog a number of times and do not see anything that breaks state or local animal laws.
