BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police say they have found a high-tech way to fight crime in the area.

A new smart device application, called I-Watch Bridgeport, allows users to instantly report crimes to the police anonymously.

The application can be downloaded for free on any smartphone or web-enabled device, and even allows users to sign up for crime alert text messages.

The I-Watch application is already being used by police departments across the country, but Bridgeport police say they will be the first to use the application in the Northeast.

The application's maker added that 85 percent of tips that come through I-Watch are real, and since it's allowing users to report a crime a few seconds after it has happened, I-Watch is changing the way police departments find criminals.
