BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police were at Cesar Batalla School today for active shooter training.

The training involves police going room to room to look for would-be threats.

Students are on vacation this week, freeing up the building for police use.

Officers say using a real school makes the training much more valuable. They say area police need to rely on their own tactics to eliminate a threat rather than wait for a SWAT team.

Police say the force has upped its training over the last 10 years to handle active shooter situations.

The police department says it still has two more sessions this year to assure all officers in Bridgeport are familiar with the training. Officials say they plan to review and update Bridgeport officers on this training material each year.
