BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police say their efforts to recruit new officers drew more than 2,000 applications from men and women who want to join the force.

Mayor Bill Finch said he wanted to thank the Bridgeport Guardians and the Bridgeport Hispanic Society for their support.

He said the city and police department worked with the community in an aggressive recruitment campaign to connect with a diverse group of potential recruits.    

The recruitment deadline for the department ended last night.
