Bridgeport police say cell phone may be linked to crash

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police are investigating after a woman died after being hit by a car while she was leaving a bus.

They say the driver of the car that hit her may have been on a cell phone.

The crash happened Monday afternoon near the corner of Hancock and Fairfield avenues.

Police say Christina DeJara, 74, was headed home at the time she was hit.

She was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital and died Wednesday.

The funeral home handling the arrangements says DeJara had 10 grandchildren.
