BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police say they plan on reopening a substation near the Trumbull Gardens housing complex this summer in the wake of a shooting last weekend.

Three people were shot at the apartments on Sunday in what’s been part of a long history of violence at the complex. In 2015, eight people were shot, one fatally, in what was considered one of the worst shootings in Bridgeport history.

Police Chief AJ Perez walked the neighborhood on Thursday, greeting residents as he went. He says community policing will be a pillar of change in the city and adds that good progress has been made in the investigation into Sunday's shooting.

When Mayor Joseph Ganim was running for office, cutting crime in Trumbull Gardens was one of his big platforms. He says he was there Thursday to make sure the neighborhood knows that it's still a priority.
