Bridgeport reaches out to Haitian community

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport officials held a meeting Friday morning for members of the city's Haitian community in the wake of the devastating earthquake that has destroyed parts of Haiti.

Mayor Bill Finch told attendees that while they may feel helpless at times, they must not be hopeless. Finch told the group that he's encouraging all city employees to donate to relief organizations.

Religious leaders also told the group that this is a time for the community to unite.

Some Haitians at the meeting say communications are starting to improve and that they've been having an easier time getting in touch with loved ones back home.
