Bridgeport Rescue Mission in need of help

Volunteers distribute meals 10 times a week in Bridgeport and Norwalk. (2/20/14)

NORWALK - A local organization that helps the poor and needy in Fairfield County is in need of help after one of its food trucks broke down.

The executive director of the Bridgeport Rescue Mission says it needs to raise money to buy a used food truck in order to keep their mission going and their food hot.

Cooks and volunteers start at around 11 a.m. each day to prepare free dinner for anyone who needs food in Bridgeport and South Norwalk. Volunteers distribute meals 10 times a week.

In the meantime, volunteers are serving food out of a cargo van. Since the van is not built to carry food the volunteers say it's difficult keeping the meals hot.
