BRIDGEPORT - Authorities in Bridgeport say flooding got so severe in some areas that several motorists got stranded in their cars and had to be rescued today.

Officials say both Barnum and West avenues were under 3 feet of water, as traffic flow slowed to a crawl during severe downpours this afternoon.

Police say with extensive street flooding, it is safer for residents to stay off the roads.
