BRIDGEPORT - At the request of the Bridgeport Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. John Ramos will leave his post on January 1.
After a closed door meeting that lasted for 20 minutes, the board voted to end Superintendent Ramos' contract.
In his remarks to the board, Ramos said he accepted their decision if it was in the district's best interests. The district is facing a $10 million budget deficit.
This is a new school board, that was reconstituted by the state, and had the full support of Ramos.
Ramos says he would like to stay and teach in Connecticut. Under the terms of his contract, he will be paid through the end of the year and when he's terminated, he'll receive a lump sum of $229,000.
