BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police say a fight at Fairchild Wheeler Magnet School Wednesday was the result of tensions following a homicide in the Park City last week.

Police add that the fight broke out because some students support the victim of the shooting, while others support the teen accused in the incident.

Police Chief A.J. Perez says multiple summonses were handed out at the school, and he says two students were also arrested at Harding High School for a similar fight.

According to police, 19-year-old Deonte Tomlinson shot and killed 17-year-old Kahlil Diaz last Friday amid an ongoing gang war between rival housing projects.

After Wednesday's fight, no one was allowed in or out of Fairchild Wheeler as police had every student go through its metal detectors.

Last week, a Harding student was arrested after admitting to bringing a pistol into school.

Councilwoman Mary McBride-Lee says she fears that violence inside Bridgeport schools could soon impact the city's neighborhoods.

Interim Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz says school administrators met Wednesday to discuss what they should look for to prevent violence.  As a result, additional security will be on hand at the Fairchild Wheeler and Harding schools.

News 12 is told that social workers will also be available to speak with students following Diaz's death.
