Bridgeport senior housing complex remains without power

BRIDGEPORT - Massive power outages across southwestern Connecticut are taking a toll on everyone, especially the elderly at one Bridgeport housing complex.

Senior citizens living in the apartments say going without electricity since Hurricane Irene struck is a daily struggle. Many aren't able to cook and others in wheelchairs are confined indoors because the elevator doesn't work.

Helen Yansick, 88, relies on an oxygen machine 24 hours a day. She only has power in her kitchen, where she is forced to sit and wait until the outages are fully restored.

The manager of the complex reached out to United Illuminating, which says it has crews working as quickly as it can.
