BRIDGEPORT - A group representing 17 local labor unions says it is endorsing Democratic candidate Joe Ganim in the Bridgeport mayoral race.

The Fairfield County Building Construction Trades Council made the endorsement at the Steelpointe Harbor site yesterday.

Ganim beat Mayor Bill Finch for the democratic nomination in last month's primary.

Union officials say Ganim is the candidate they most believe in.

A spokesman for independent candidate Mary-Jane Foster says despite what union members say, he doesn't believe Ganim will be good for development in the city.
