BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport emergency officials launched a new service for residents Wednesday with the goal of helping first responders get to an emergency quicker and potentially save more lives.

In order to use Smart911, residents simply visit the website and create a profile by adding their name, address, medications, and anything else they want emergency dispatchers to know. They will even have the option of adding pictures of their family members.

The profile information will be linked to the person’s phone number.  When a person calls 911, all the of data automatically appears on a screen, so first responders have background information on the person who is calling.

Bridgeport officials say that the information entered online is safe and secure. The information will only appear on the dispatcher’s screen when the person dials 911.

Smart911 representatives say Newtown is the only other Connecticut community to have this technology, but other local communities are considering it.
