Burglar breaks into Westport home in broad daylight

WESPORT - Authorities are investigating after a Westport woman caught a burglar running out of the back door of her house Tuesday.

Police say the burglary occurred around 4 p.m. when a man broke into the home on Sunrise Road in the Saugatuck area.

According to police, the suspected burglar escaped out the back door empty-handed and drove off in a tan car with New Jersey license plates.

The victim of the burglary was not harmed. Neighbors say the burglary is unsettling news because doors are seldom locked. They feel residents at home during the day, many of them stay-at-home moms, are the most vulnerable.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call police at 203-341-6000
