BRIDGEPORT - There is controversy in Bridgeport today over a new report that ranks the city as one of America's most violent.
Business Insider magazine says it based its report on statistics from the FBI. Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett says the raw data may have come from the FBI, but says the way the magazine formulated its top 25 list was “unethical.”
Gaudett says that contrary to what Business Insider is reporting, Bridgeport is definitely not the fourth most violent city in America. He says the statistics the magazine used were skewed because of two people who sexually assaulted others hundreds of times. As a result, Bridgeport has received the stigma of being a violent city.

Bridgeport City Councilwoman Lydia Martinez says in spite of the report's errors, Bridgeport does need help, and she says it needs to come from the federal government.
