Businesses in southwestern Connecticut raise money for autism research and advocacy
WESTPORT - Several businesses in southwestern Connecticut raised money today for autism research and advocacy.
Autism Speaks says it's the first time businesses in both Westport and Fairfield have been part of a coordinated effort to raise money for autism.
The organization says 60 small businesses participated in what it hopes will become an annual event.
Shops participating in the program displayed a special decal. Businesses also donated 10 percent of the day's net sales or a flat $500 to Autism Speaks.
An autism benefit concert is also scheduled for March 22 at Westport's Toquet Hall.
