Cancer survivor gets married at Wilton Relay for Life

A Westhill High School teacher got married at the annual Wilton Relay for Life two weeks ago, and she says it is due to fate

STAMFORD - A Westhill High School teacher got married at the annual Wilton Relay for Life two weeks ago, and she says it is due to fate when she was discharged from the hospital following her cancer treatment.

Danielle Waring, an English teacher and cancer survivor, says she's been bringing teams of students to the Wilton Relay for Life for years, but this year, you could also call the event a relay for love.

Waring says she and her husband, Paulo Bernardo, decided to get married at the event because if it hadn't been for cancer, they would have never reconnected.

They went to high school together, but ran into each other in the lobby of the hospital the day Waring was released.

She says she knows that their story is one in a million and that it reminds her how lucky she is to be a survivor.
