WESTPORT - Grabbing a slice of pizza usually doesn't do much more than satisfy an appetite, but Joe's Pizza decided to put some meaning behind it.
The Westport pizzeria was raising money for cancer survivors Saturday by donating 25 percent of its profits to the cause.
Employees say the money benefits the cancer survivor organization Connecticut Challenge.
The request came from a loyal customer, who is battling cancer for the third time.
"I had colon, cervical [cancer], then was free for 10 years," says Amy Kaplan. "[I] took a trip to South America to celebrate, and was diagnosed with breast cancer."
She says every survivor needs continued support and therapy, so she asked Joe's Pizza to help out the best way they know how -- by serving as many pizzas as possible Saturday.
The restaurant hoped to sell 200 pizzas to help out the cause.
