NEW YORK - Area Catholics are mourning the death of Cardinal Edward Egan who once served as bishop in Bridgeport for 12 years.
The 82-year-old former church leader went into cardiac arrest after eating lunch yesterday.
He died shortly later at a Manhattan hospital.
Funeral arrangements are being made.
Cardinal Egan was ordained in 1957 and became Archbishop of New York in 2000. A year later, he was elevated to Cardinal.
