BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport school principal who was caught on camera dragging a kindergarten student down the hallway will not be fired.

After months of hearings, the board of education suspended Carmen Perez-Dickson yesterday for six months without pay. She will be on probation for another six months after that and then reassigned to an administrative position.

Because of union collective bargaining agreements, district officials say Perez-Dickson will still make most of her $149,000 yearly salary.

When the six-month probationary period ends, she'll be reinstated as principal, though not at Tisdale School.

Board members who voted in favor of the decision say they made the right decision based on evidence brought before them.

The board says her actions were inappropriate, but did not justify termination.
