WESTPORT - A ceremony was held today at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport to honor Sept. 11 first responders and to continue to raise awareness about the assistance they now need.

The speakers praised the courage of the first responders for selflessly placing themselves in harm's way right after the attacks.

The speakers also spoke about the need to provide more care to those first responders who suffered health consequences from the dust at Ground Zero.

"I think we need to support them any way we can," says Bonnie McNeaney, who lost her husband in the Sept. 11 attacks. "If they need health care, we need to give it to them."

Gov. Dannel Malloy (D-Conn.) also spoke at the event, talking about the spirit of American volunteerism.
