MILFORD - The community in Milford is continuing to rally around a local college softball star who's facing her toughest battle.
Foran High School graduate and Stony Brook University softball star Danni Kemp was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.
Fundraisers in Kemp's hometown have helped raise thousands of dollars to help treat her rare cancer since she was diagnosed over the summer.
Family and friends held a homerun derby Sunday afternoon in Kemp's honor. It marked the first time Kemp was able to be there to see all the outpouring of love and support firsthand.
The tumor was first discovered while Kemp was playing summer ball with the Stratford Brakettes and was hit in the head by a pitch. Kemp thought she had a concussion, but tests revealed it was an inoperable brain tumor.
A Facebook page has been set to up to let supporters follow Kemp's fight against cancer. It features posts from college softball teams across the country, who wear “Danni Strong” T-shirts and blue bracelets, and offer words of encouragement.
