Child left unattended at Bridgeport school

BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport mother is speaking out after she says her 5-year-old son was put in danger at school when he wandered out of the building unsupervised.

According to the woman, she was called to pick up her son at Classical Studies Academy yesterday afternoon. She says when she arrived, he was two houses down from the school, standing outside in the rain unattended.

The mother says she questioned the principal, who told her that the little boy was asked to sit outside the office, but instead left unnoticed.

The mother is now trying to meet with the district's superintendent to talk about the incident. She says she has made several unsuccessful calls to the Board of Education.

The head of security for Bridgeport Public Schools told News 12 Connecticut that the school had a security guard who wasn't near the door when the boy left and that the guard forgot to lock the door that morning.
