DARIEN - The proprietor of a Darien consignment shop says the recently enacted child safety bill threatens to put her out of business.

?I could be put out of business,? says Kathy Matula, owner of Children?s Attic.

Matula says the act only goes so far to suggest items with things like zippers and snaps could be unsafe. She says she?s had to throw away products without knowing if they?re actually dangerous and could have to trash the majority of her inventory if the act isn?t amended.

While the act doesn?t mandate testing for dangerous materials, it does carry the threat of a $100,000 fine if she?s found to be selling them. The testing itself can also cost upwards of $100,000.

?If we're not required to test, how am I supposed to know if a zipper has lead in it?? she says.
