NORWALK - Many residents across southwestern Connecticut celebrated Palm Sunday and the start of the Christian holy week.

At Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk, in addition to Palm Sunday services, parishioners also celebrated three months worth of extensive renovations to the building.

Congregants say the biggest change was a new marble alter surrounded by marble railings and floors.

The renovations also include restoring parts of the 140-year-old church. The entire project cost $1 million.
