FAIRFIELD - Fairfield University’s annual Clam Jam beach party kicked off today.

The party on Lantern Point, a private beach off Fairfield Beach Road, has been a source of contention for neighbors who find the party unruly and loud.

Students who took part in today’s festivities say they have found a middle-ground with neighbors this year and have not caused any problems.

Police put up guard fences and added extra security in the area. They also have set up a DUI checkpoint.
