STAMFORD - Greenwich police and the Coast Guard responded to a distress call last night on the Long Island Sound.
The distress call was in regard to an unmanned, out-of-control boat. Police say the boat was going so fast, it appeared to be airborne.
Police say the two men aboard the ship were heading from Stamford Harbor to Oyster Bay when the vessel hit a wave, causing them to be ejected from the boat. Authorities say the men were rescued by a good Samaritan in a nearby boat.
According to police, they were able to catch up to the runaway boat and clog the propellers to slow it down enough for officers to jump on board and shut it off.
Police say no one was injured during the incident. They also said it is hard to tell if speed was a factor in the situation, but there are no signs that alcohol was involved.
