NEW CANAAN - The historic inn that collapsed in New Canaan during yesterday's high winds is now being prepared for demolition.

The former Maples Inn on Oenoke Road fell as it was being converted into apartments.

New Canaan's Building Department says weak and poor construction was likely responsible for yesterday's collapse. It says demolition is the only option as there is absolutely no way of salvaging what is left.

Fire officials say five construction workers were inside at the time, but no one was hurt.
