STAMFORD - Bus and train fares could go up 5 percent in December. And last night, commuters got the chance to speak out about it.

If approved, a one-way bus ride would increase from a $1.50 to a $1.75.

Monthly Metro-North passes from Stamford to Manhattan would increase from $313 to $332.

Commuters and elected officials attended two hearings at UConn-Stamford yesterday.

Republican state representatives say the Department of Transportation is being forced to propose the increase to close a budget gap created by a decrease in state funding.

State officials say the increases would take effect in early December, if approved.
