GREENWICH - Marine units from across southwestern Connecticut are raising awareness about the dangers of drinking and boating.

The initiative, called Operation Dry Water, is aimed at keeping boaters' alcohol consumption to a minimum. Officers will ask boaters to tie down to local docks as they conduct safety inspections.

"It's a recreational activity," says Greenwich officer Joe Turcsanyi. "People are supposed to go out, have a good time, enjoy, and there are needless deaths."

The program is run in conjunction with the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.
