EASTON - Two Connecticut firefighters who died in the line of duty last year were among those honored today at a ceremony in Maryland.

Lt. Russell Neary, of the Easton Fire Department, and 1st Lt. George Sanford, of the Redding Fire and EMS Company, were among 81 firefighters from around the country who died in the line of duty in 2012. They were honored at the 32nd annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, held at the National Fire Academny.

Sanford suffered a heart attack in April 2012 while responding to a brush fire. Neary was killed after he was struck by a tree while he was responding to a call during Superstorm Sandy.
